Stepology
American tap dance
In 2003, STEPOLOGY began with a goal to preserve and propel the American art form known as tap dancing. Through instructional workshops, performances, a youth scholarship program, and other activities, STEPOLOGY aims to enrich the local and global communities with an increased understanding and appreciation of tap. STEPOLOGY presents their annual Bay Area Tap Festival and Rhythm Exchange, providing an opportunity for American tap dance master performers to teach and perform. The week long event includes a concert performance, over 30 workshop classes open to the community, and a community showcase performance.
In 2012, 2011, 2010, 2009, and 2007, STEPOLOGY received a grant from ACTA’s Living Cultures Grants Program to support their Bay Area Tap Festival and Rhythm Exchange.
In 2008, STEPOLOGY participated in ACTA’s Traditional Arts Development Program, working with development consultant Julie Kanter and videographer Andy Mogg to create a development plan designed to strengthen the organization’s ability to provide support from the private sector, including the creation of a promotional DVD.
