Inspired Sound Initiative

Greater Los Angeles Los Angeles County African/African-American European-American Latino/a/x Middle Eastern/Middle Eastern-American Dance Music 2021

Inspired Sound Initiative was founded in 2016 by Yuval Ron, an award-winning world music artist, composer, educator, peace activist, and record producer, who has a deep desire and drive to offer music, dance, and storytelling to underserved communities as an antidote to the challenges these populations face. Inspired Sound Initiative provides both in-person traditional music and dance workshops as well as prerecorded masterclasses, to participants in Los Angeles, across the United States, and internationally.

 

In 2021, a grant from ACTA’s Living Cultures Grant Program will support Inspired Sound Initiative’s Roots for Challenging Times, a traditional dance and music lecture-demo series. The series will provide underserved communities and at-risk youth in south Los Angeles the opportunity to learn about the music and dance traditions of Veracruz, Mexico; Andalusia, Spain; West Africa; and the Middle East. The events will be free and open to the public and will feature four professional artists who are experts in their tradition.
