Puri Arts, led by Artistic Director Dohee Lee who grew up on Jeju Island, Korea, where she trained at the master-level in music and dance styles rooted in Korean shamanism, has partnered with corean (Korean) artists in diaspora (particularly Ieumsae, Jamaesori percussion collective in Oakland) to sustain the practice of Pungmul (Farmer’s Ritual Drumming) in connection with land stewardship and agricultural traditions.
Pungmul Gut on Land: Farming Ritual on Land
Funding will support pungmul drumming and and yearly festivals (Chuseok and Dano) at Gohyang Farm, a site for traditional Korean agricultural techniques.
Every gift is a commitment to a culture bearer, and the people of California.
