About the Organization

The Desert Recreation Foundation (DRF) is dedicated to making recreational activities accessible to all members of the Coachella Valley community, especially those facing financial or other barriers. By providing scholarships and funding, DRF helps ensure that individuals, regardless of their background, can participate in programs like Ballet Folklorico and other cultural, artistic, and physical activities. This support opens doors for underserved families, giving them the opportunity to engage in enriching experiences they might otherwise miss. DRF’s commitment goes beyond just providing access; it helps participants connect with their heritage, build confidence, and foster a sense of belonging. Through these efforts, the DRF promotes inclusion, equity and community engagement, ensuring that everyone has the chance to benefit from the positive impacts of recreational programs and contribute to the diverse culture of the Coachella Valley.
Living Cultures Grant Program

2024
Funding will reduce program fees for Ballet Folklórico classes, enabling underserved youth in Mecca, North Shore, and Thermal to participate in weekly classes and performances at local community centers. The grant will help alleviate financial barriers for families and cover instructor costs, supporting continued access to this culturally significant art form.
