Yurok women’s regalia

Teresa McGinnis is an enrolled member of the Yurok Tribe and a descendant of the Wiyot and Tolowa Dee-Ni’ Nation. She is a mother and a wife, deeply rooted in her cultural traditions. Since the age of six, she has been beading and learning the importance of traditional materials—especially basket-making materials—passed down by her late grandparents. Born into a Yurok home and family, Teresa believes it is in her blood to carry forward these teachings—not only for her own family, but for the world to experience and enjoy, with a special focus on passing them on to her children.

Strengthening and Empowering Through Traditional Materials

Funding will support a project in which three mothers and daughters come together to create regalia dresses, guided by traditional materials, tribal culture, and intergenerational learning. Through this collaborative process, participants will build cultural understanding, share knowledge, and strengthen bonds in a positive environment rooted in respect for Tribal traditions.
