Japanese taiko
The Siskiyou Arts Council (SAC) has 37 years experience working with artists and audiences in the visual, performing, and literary arts in Siskiyou County.
In 2010, SAC received a grant from ACTA’s Living Cultures Grants Program to present Shasta Taiko performing traditional Japanese taiko (drumming) at three summer festivals for the general public in Shasta and Siskiyou counties. Bringing traditional arts to rural and underserved counties will give nearly 60,000 people an opportunity to see master artists Russel Hisahi Baba and Jean Aiko Mercer in this cultural exchange.
