Nor Rel Muk Wintu Nation
The Nor Rel Muk Wintu Nation’s traditional homeland lies in the headwaters of the South Fork of the Trinity River, in Trinity County, California. Approximately half of the tribe’s 1,000 members still live near their ancestral lands in Trinity and Shasta Counties. Nor Rel Muk Wintu members from across the state gather annually over Memorial Day weekend, to participate in Wintu songs, dances, and traditional crafts.
In 2015, the Nor Rel Muk Wintu Nation received a grant from ACTA’s Living Cultures Grants Program to fund the research and teaching of traditional practices for making Nor Rel Muk Wintu ceremonial regalia. A series of workshops will be held across the state to share the process for building regalia with tribal members.
