Nakeiltha “Nikki” Campbell

West African Drumming

Born in Colon, Panama and raised in Los Angeles, Nakeiltha “Nikki” Campbell is an extraordinary percussionist, educator, and performing artist who promotes empowerment through the celebration of African cultural heritage. Drumming has been her vehicle to engage with and build community and keep her connected to her West African, Caribbean, and Panamanian roots.  

Nikki has toured and performed with Stevie Wonder, Lila Downs, Jose Gonzales, Amazones “The Woman Master Drummers of Guinea,” Viver Brazil, Dr. Martha Gonzales from Quetzal, Candy Sosa, Mariachi Divas, Adaawe, The Rebirth, and Miguel Atwood Ferguson ensemble. She performed at the NAACP Image Awards with Will.I.AM, the 53rd Grammy Award with Rihanna, American Idol with Janelle Monae and Jidenna.

Nikki has been a Teaching Artist since 2018, teaching Malinke West African Drumming at California State Prison, Corcoran and California Institution for Women.

In addition to her work with ACTA, Nikki travels the world teaching West African drums and history at music schools, universities, elementary schools, and cultural centers. She also assists with drumming for the West African Dance class at UCLA’s Department of World Arts and Culture/Dance.
