Marsha R. Jones
Choir Teaching Artist
Marsha R. Jones grew up around choir music — her father was a choir director and her mother a singer in his choir. At the age of 18, she began directing the choir at her church and by 25, she founded and directed a Children’s Community Choir, which performed all over the state of California and recorded a live CD. In her choir classes, Marsha’s goal is to provide students with positive musical and educational experiences through the entire choral process: singing fundamentals, rehearsals, and performances.
As a Teaching Artist, Marsha has been offering Gospel Choir at the Central California Women’s Facility. Since 2013, Jones has taught choir workshops at CCWF, where she has provided appropriate vocal warm-ups, identified range, and vocal capabilities, and helped with blending individual voices to gain a unified choir sound. She also provided proper ear training to create vocal harmonies. She also has experience teaching choir classes at VSP, Corcoran, SATF, Pleasant Valley, and Kern Valley. She gains much pleasure from sharing the gift of music and creating an atmosphere where her students feel safe to experience freedom through the song lyrics.
