The mission of GenRyu Arts promotes, presents, and participates in art-making, art sharing, and community building through the arts. GenRyu Arts, based in the SF Japantown community as Gen Taiko and Odori School, and Studio Gen as an inclusive community space for art. The Gen kanji means “origin” or “where the spring begins”. This concept has allowed GenRyu Arts to respond to the needs of the community through the arts in the spirit of omatsuri.

Generations of Joy through Drumming and Dance

GenRyu Arts will teach taiko drumming and traditional folk dances to children and senior citizens in the San Francisco Bay Area to strengthen the bond of the Japanese American community with intergenerational celebrations of Japanese holidays of Hina Matsuri (Girls’ Day) and Keiro no Hi (Respect for the Aged Day).
