Ballet Folklorico El Tapatio de San Dieguito (BFETdeSD)

Ballet Folklorico El Tapatio de San Dieguito (BFETdeSD) is a Mexican traditional dance ensemble based in San Diego. Created in 2000, BFETdeSD has a home at Bayside Community Center as well as Encinitas Community Center, and serves more than 60 students between the two ensembles. With over 10 years of performing experience, BFETdeSD’s mission is to represent the culture of Mexico through the traditional dances, music, and costumes featured in their lively performances.

In 2021, a grant from ACTA’s Living Cultures Grant Program supported the ensemble in providing six months of free Mexican ballet folklorico instruction to students financially impacted by COVID-19. Weekly classes will be held over Zoom and will provide both technical dance instruction and cultural education about the origins, history, and traditions of ballet folklorico.
