Join us for this special one-night concert premiering ten newly commissioned songs from local artists whose music reflects the complex beauty of the San Joaquin Valley—home to one of the largest and most culturally rich populations from Greater Mexico in the U.S. The concert will feature a range of musical styles and genres, including Arpa Grande, Chilenas, Chicano Rock/R&B, Latin Jazz, Norteño, Mariachi, Nueva Canción, Mixtec Rap, and Son Jarocho.
This is the second performance of ACTA’s Sounds of California: San Joaquin Valley initiative, a multi-year collaboration with Radio Bilingüe that explores how music carries the voices, dreams, and histories of our region. Last year’s concert, Corridos del San Joaquín, spotlighted farmworkers, educators, truck drivers, and students telling their own stories through traditional corrido. This year, Canciones moves that tradition forward—offering a new canon of original songs born from life in the Valley today. Together, their performances form a living, breathing archive of Central California’s past, present, and future.
