About the Artist

Snigdha Venkataramani is an established Bharatanatyam dancer, choreographer, teacher, Carnatic Vocalist and music composer. She has received training in Bharatanatyam art form for over three decades under the tutelage of the world-renowned dance Guru Padmabhushan Dr. Saroja Vaidyanathan at her institution Ganesa Natyalaya, New Delhi. She has also had the fortune of being trained by internationally acclaimed performer Ms. Rama Vaidyanathan. She has undergone training in Carnatic music for over two decades under veteran vocalists, and is currently under the tutelage of world-record holder musicians Carnatica Brothers. She has performed in very prestigious festivals in India and abroad, including the Khajuraho festival [Khajuraho, India], International Delphic Games [Kuching, Malaysia] and the IAZ Gruezi festival, [Zurich, Switzerland]. Snigdha is also an active choreographer having choreographed several solo and group dances, including Varna Sankeerna, Prakritim Vandanam, and Shikshaa. She is proficient in Nattuvangam [conducting recitals on cymbals] vocals and music composition for dance, and therefore is a well-rounded consummate performer. Snigdha has performed vocal and dance together for Abhinaya pieces, a rare feature these days which reflected the traditions of the hereditary practitioners of Bharatanatyam. Snigdha is highly sought after by dancers and dance groups for nattuvangam, choreography, music composition and vocal support. She is the recipient of several prestigious awards including Rajiv Gandhi National Award for Unity, Delphic Golden Award, and The Aryabhatta Award. Snigdha has established a school of performing arts in Fremont, California named “Laya Dhwani Academy” and imparts training to various enthusiastic disciples. The school has successfully several arangetrams for dance and music. Her disciples are high achievers just like her and have won several prizes in prestigious dance and music competitions all over California and even at the National level. Snigdha has been the Master Artist recipient for the Alliance for California Traditional Arts Apprenticeship Program. Snigdha aspires to build a rich atmosphere of peaceful and joyous collaborations through Indian Performing Arts.
