About the Artist

Madiou Diouf – Sound Engineer and Musical Director
Madiou Diouf’s journey in the world of music and sound engineering is a testament to the rich tapestry of cultural influences that shape an artist’s craft. Born into a family where artistic excellence is the norm, with a father who is an Emmy Award winner and a mother who is a National Heritage Fellow, Madiou’s exposure to the arts began early and was as diverse as his heritage, which spans Senegal, Liberia, and the United States. This multicultural background provided him with a unique perspective on music and performance playing many instruments from djembe, kutiro, dundun, log drum, bells, ngoma, sasa, which he has honed over the years through dedication and passion.

From the tender age of 10, Madiou was already performing with his father, Zakarya Diouf, and learning from esteemed artists such as Mor Thiam and Abdoulaye Diakhate. These experiences not only enriched his understanding of music but also instilled in him the discipline and rigor required to excel in the performing arts. His talent and hard work led him to become one of the lead drummers for the Olympics in Atlanta, a prestigious role that showcased his skill on an international stage. Furthermore, his involvement in the introductory event for ‘Black Panther Part 2’ speaks volumes about his ability to blend traditional rhythms with contemporary demands.

Madiou’s academic achievements, particularly his B.A. in Audio Engineering from Expressions College, have equipped him with the technical expertise to complement his natural flair for drumming. His role as the Musical Director/Coordinator for Diamano Coura West African Dance Company and Collage demonstrates his commitment to preserving and promoting African culture through music and dance. His work with national dance companies and collaborations with the National Ballet of Senegal are further proof of his versatility and respect for his roots.
His contributions to the San Francisco Ethnic Dance Festival and the BET Awards in Los Angeles highlight his ability to navigate different cultural spaces, bringing his unique sound to diverse audiences.
