Anindo Marshall
West African Drumming
Anindo Marshall is an accomplished musician, percussionist, and dancer. She began her career in her homeland of Kenya and, after signing a recording contract with EMI Spain, became known as “Kenya’s singing sensation.” Since then, Anindo has performed with Babatunde Olatunji and Mickey Hart of the Grateful Dead, among others.
Today, Anindo is a Certified Dunham Technique Instructor, and serves as a board member of the Katherine Dunham Certification Board. She is also the founder and artistic director of Marshall Dance Company, a dance company that focuses on the Dunham Technique and raises funds for Abukutsa Arts Academy, a performing arts and academic school in Luanda, Kenya.
Anindo joined ACTA as a Teaching Artist in 2019 and offers a course in Malinke West African Drumming at the California Institute for Women. Outside of her work with Art Breaks In, Marshall continues to teach all worldwide, including Debbie Allen Dance Academy, Dance Dimensions, Lula Washington Dance Theater, USC, Occidental College, LMU, LACHSA, and ACTA. She also conducts residencies in colleges all over the US, and has conducted Dunham Technique residencies in LAUSD schools as part of the Arts Community Partnership Network.
