WasabiKai
WasabiKai is a ceramics program of the Senshin Buddhist Temple of Los Angeles. The veritable institution has had a profound effect on the Japanese and Japanese- American community by its commitment to traditional arts, namely safeguarding Gagaku music, Bugagku dance, and introducing the first Taiko group to the United States in the late 1960’s.
Funding from ACTA’s Living Cultures Grants Program in 2016 will provide equipment and tools needed for a new ceramics studio which is expanding to accommodate the growing number of adults and youth who use the studio. Ceramic works for everyday use are currently taught by a master teacher along with Reverend Kodani who provides the Japanese aesthetic philosophy, guiding the project.
