Tulare County League of Mexican-American Women

Tulare County League of Mexican-American Women (TCLMAW) was founded in 1979 by five Tulare County Mexican-American women who were dedicated to educating and increasing the knowledge of women in Tulare County through activities such as conferences, workshops, and community projects.  This dedication continues today.  The TCLMAW has been active for over 25 years and is one of the oldest non-profit organizations in Tulare County.

In 2015, as a grantee of ACTA’s Living Cultures Grants Program, the TCLMAW will produce a year-long series of workshops for youth in the rural town of Farmersville, California.  Students will meet weekly to learn some of the artistic traditions surrounding the Mexican holiday of Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), including cartonería (paper mâche), painting, papel picado (cut paper), alfeñique (sugar sculpting), and altar building.
