Shoua Her is a family man and father of seven. Her has been a recognized master qeej teacher for the past 20 years and teaches multiple aspects of Hmong culture. He also trains qeej instructors and provides instruction in wedding, shamanic, and funeral traditions, as well as Hmong New Year cultural performances. Her has served the Hmong community through funeral services for over 40 years.

Khew Her will learn from Shoua Her the traditional practice of playing the qeej, a central instrument in Hmong cultural and ceremonial life. Shoua will teach Khew the skills needed to play the qeej for community celebrations, Hmong New Year performances, weddings, shamanic practices, and funeral traditions, including its important role in communicating with and guiding the deceased to their ancestors.
