Los Lupeños de San José
Mexican folkloric dance
Los Lupeños de San José exists to promote the awareness, appreciation, and understanding of the rich and passionate culture of Mexico through dance. Their home is at the Mexican Heritage Plaza in San Jose where Los Lupeños dancers rehearse and perform in a place that is closer to the community.
Los Lupeños has a diverse history and over the years has accumulated a varied repertoire of dances from many master teachers from both sides of the border. Much of this material can be seen throughout the year in large and small performances and events.
In 2006, Los Lupeños received a grant from ACTA’s Living Cultures Grants Program to inventory and develop proper wardrobe-storage facilities to house its extensive Mexican folklorico costume and prop collection which was in danger of being damaged. This collection is made up of largely handmade traditional costumes that have been part of the performing group’s history since its founding in 1969.
