L.A. Samba Kids

L.A. Samba Kids, a culturally rich, after-school arts education program founded on the Brazilian Carnival traditions of music, dance, and visual arts, serves urban, under-resourced middle and high school students in South Los Angeles.  Offering a curriculum in traditional music, dance, and visual and media arts from the Latin Americas, as well as instruction in personal development, L.A. Samba Kids inpsires youth to acquire culturally authentic creative and performance skills, build self-confidence and pride in accomplishment, pracitce personal dicipline and helathy behaviors and form positive relationships within their community.

Since 2007, L.A. Samba Kids has offered a 5-day-a-week after school program at John Muir Middle School.  In 2013, they have also partnered with the Boys & Girls Club to offer a 2-day-a-week program at Locke High School.

L.A. Samba Kids received a grant from ACTA’s Living Cultures Grants Program in 2014.
