Kim Eung Hwa Korean Dance Academy
Korean traditional dance
Founded in 1980 by Kim Eung Hwa, the Kim Eung Hwa Korean Dance Academy serves the greater Los Angeles community, from the heart of Koreatown, as it strives to preserve the art of Korean traditional dance. Deeply rooted in its 20-year Korean traditional dance history, the Academy strives to preserve the art of Korean traditional dance and music and actively engages in the promotion of cultural awareness and exchange through performances in non-native venues.
For over 20 years, Kim Eung Hwa has been teaching Korean traditional dance, and producing and choreographing major performances in Los Angeles and abroad. Ms. Kim is a disciple of Korean National Treasure No. 27, Ms. Han Young Sook, and has a B.A. in Korean Traditional Dance from Joong-Ang University, Seoul, Korea.
In 2006, the Academy received a grant from ACTA’s Living Cultures Grants Program to support weekly summer programs for youth and young adults in traditional dance and music. Focused on cultural awareness and celebrating Korean history, the participants are primarily second and third generation Korean-Americans.
