Hungarian Folk Singing Circle / Népdalkör

Musician and ethnographic researcher, Zina Bozzay founded the Hungarian Folk Singing Circle (‘Népdalkör’ in Hungarian) in 2010. An avid practitioner, she is dedicated to keeping the oral tradition alive. The Hungarian American communities in the Bay Area are active in an annual Heritage Festival, local dance and music ensembles. The singing circles provide another opportunity to promote, preserve and actively engage in a living heritage.

A 2017 Living Cultures grant will expand the offerings of the Hungarian Folk Singing circle in San Francisco to include workshops in the East Bay and Peninsula making these opportunities more accessible to greater Hungarian and Hungarian-American populations.
