Esha Bandyopadhyay
Northeast Indian Odissi
As a participant in ACTA’s Traditional Arts Development Program in 2005, Esha Bandyopadhyay completed an intense period of study in Northeast Indian Odissi dance with her mentor Ms. Niharika Mohanty. She learned a piece called Das Avatar, a combination of technical and expressional dance which portrays the ten incarnations of the Hindu God Vishnu. By mastering Das Avatar, Ms. Bandyopadhyay is now able to perform what practitioners consider a full Odissi repertoire, and to perform and teach with Ms. Mohanty.
