Coachella Valley Housing Coalition
Coachella Valley Housing Coalition was founded in 1982 by local community activists, business leaders, and other individuals to address the lack of adequate housing for farmworkers, low-income families, and individuals in the Coachella Valley. The mission of CVHC is to help low-income families improve their living conditions through advocacy, research, construction, and operation of housing and community development projects. For more than thirty years, CVHC has provided low-income families and individuals with safe, affordable housing and the opportunity to engage their self-development with on-site enrichment programs.
In 2014 and 2013, CVHC received funds from ACTA’s Living Cultures Grants Program for ballet folklorico dance lessons, provided twice a week without cost to 30 youth who are residents of this housing community. Artistic direction and lessons are provided by Maribel De Leon and include knowledge of regional styles, performance techniques, and opportunities to perform in the community.
