Ballet Folklórico Pilares de México
Ballet Folklórico Pilares de México was formed in 2008, offering instruction in regional Mexican folk dances to an initial seven children. Currently, over 55 children and adolescents (ages 5-18) are an active part of the troupe, which performs at community events and venues in Orange County, including hospitals, churches, family reunions, and community parades, averaging 3-5 presentations per weekend. The troupe performs dances from the Mexican regions of Jalisco, Guerrero, Yucatán, Chiapas, and Veracruz. The group is led by master artists Bertha Muñoz and Manuel Gonzalez.
In 2015, a grant from ACTA’s Living Cultures Grants Program will support Ballet Folklórico Pilares de México in an expansion of their current activities, including offering an increased number of classes, repertoire development, and costume purchases.
