This month, ACTA announces new funding opportunities for folk and traditional artists:

LIVING CULTURES GRANTS PROGRAM

Deadline to apply: JULY 17, 2017

The Living Cultures Grants Program seeks to sustain and strengthen the folk and traditional arts in the state of California with grants of $5,000 to California-based nonprofits, as well as other organizations who work with fiscal sponsors.

Our Living Cultures grants are intended for year-long projects and encompass a variety of ways in which to support your cultural community. This will be our 13th year of offering the program. With projects in 50 of California’s 58 counties, we welcome your inquiries and look forward to learning more about our diverse State.  We welcome first-time applicants who may be new to the grant writing process.

APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM 

Deadline to apply: JULY 17, 2017

The Apprenticeship Program encourages the continuity of California’s traditional arts and cultures by contracting master artists to offer intensive, one-on-one training to qualified apprentices. Each $3,000 contract will support a period of concentrated learning for apprentices demonstrate a committed engagement with and talent for a specific folk and traditional art form or practice.

We are in year 18 of the Apprenticeship Program. With over 300 pairs of master artists or culture-bearers who have worked with a qualified apprentice throughout California, this flagship program acknowledges the role of master-apprentice relationship to fortify cultural expressions moving forward into the future.
