Eastern Coachella Valley residents at a tejido (embroidery) workshop taught by local master artist Natividad and her daughter Conchita. Join ACTA in Coachella on Friday, May 8th as we celebrate the culmination of a 14-week Purepecha tejido (embroidery) workshop series. Workshop participants will be displaying their collective work, sharing testimonies about their class journey, and sharing traditional Purepecha food and music. Taught by local master artist and cultural treasure Natividad Morales Gonzalez and her daughter Conchita Pozar Gonzalez, the workshops were held as part of ACTA’s ongoing work with The California Endowment’s Building Healthy Communities initiative.

During the workshop series, residents of the North Shore region of the Eastern Coachella Valley were engaged in exploring and learning about the traditional tejido weaving cultural practice from Michoacán, Mexico.  Participants learned fundamental tejido skills, while at the same time, getting to know fellow community members while exploring how community unity can lead toward better educational conditions for local youth.
