Theatre of Yugen
Theatre of Yugen is an experimental ensemble dedicated to the pursuit of the intanglible essence of yugen (yu: deep, quiet, otherworldly; gen: subtle, profound, dark). With a foundation in Japanese noh drama and kyogen comedy, Theatre of Yugen creates works of world theater by crafting original material and exploring dramatic and literary classics. By presenting and collaborating, they continue the evolution of live performance and foster intercultural understanding. And by training and educating, they keep the legacy of theatrical discipline vital.
As participants of ACTA’s Development Program in 2012, Theatre of Yugen received support for a series of workshops with Portland-based master kabuki and kyogen practitioner Lawrence Kominz.
