World Kulintang Institute
Filipino kulintang
Founded in 1988 by executive director and resident artist, Eleanor Academia, the World Kulintang Institute and Research Studies Center, Inc. is dedicated to the preservation, education, and presentation of the rare, centuries-old traditional gong/drum ensemble music from the Southern Philippines. Led by Eleanor, the World Kulintang Institute has performed for thousands at festivals, universities, schools, communities, and private special events, including openings for the LA Philharmonic, Vice-President Al Gore, Pan American 2002 World Drum Festival, and many others.
Participation in ACTA’s Traditional Arts Development Program in 2004 allowed the World Kulintang Institute to hire professional graphic arts consultant, Marco Bustamante, to plan, organize, and develop a newly created professional brochure and marketing materials for the group.
