Guelaguetza Madera 2023
The first-ever community-driven Guelaguetza in Madera
Comité Guelaguetza Madera, an all-volunteer committee composed of local residents who share deep indigenous ties, is spearheading the first-ever community-driven Guelaguetza—a renowned annual celebration in the Mexican state of Oaxaca that showcases the vibrant traditions, music, dance, and cuisine of the various regions of the state—in Madera, CA.
The Guelaguetza is a renowned annual celebration in the Mexican state of Oaxaca that showcases the vibrant traditions, music, dance, and cuisine of the various regions of the state. It is an integral part of Oaxacan tradition and a spectacular celebration of indigenous culture, unity, and ancestral heritage that annually draws tourists from around the globe. Madera is home to a large community of Oaxacans with a rich cultural heritage and the Guelaguetza holds a deep significance for them. It serves as a way to preserve and share our cultural identity, and by organizing it locally, our committee aims to ensure that our traditions are passed on to future generations. It will foster a sense of pride and belonging among the Oaxacan community in Madera while also creating an opportunity for cultural exchange and understanding among all residents. We are lining up traditional dances, music performances, artisanal craft exhibitions, and a mouth-watering array of authentic Oaxacan cuisine. The Guelaguetza in Madera will take place on Sunday, October 8, 2023 from 11 AM to 5 PM at the Madera Sunrise Rotary Sports Complex located at 1901 Clinton Street, Madera, CA 93638.
