Saravanapriyan Sriraman
Carnatic music is an ancient tradition of South Indian classical music that dates back for centuries. It is a complex system of music that requires both artistic and technical improvisation. The genre is comprised of raga, the melodic formulae, and tala, the rhythmic cycle. The violin is an integral part of Carnatic music; its adaptability and support is essential in maintaining the quality of any Carnatic music concert.
Hailing from Chennai, India, Saravanapriyan Sriraman began learning Carnatic violin at the age of 8 from Komalavalli Srinivasan. He has continued his training and practice for almost three decades, under the guidance of Tiruvarur Balasubramaniam, the late Tirupparkkadal Veeraraghavan, and Lalgudi G.J.R. Krishnan. Saravanapriyan now performs and teaches Carnatic violin in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Saravanapriyan was a master artist in ACTA’s Apprenticeship Program in 2013, with apprentice Divya Mohan.
