Friends of ACTA,

In our last The New Moon we shared with you that in partnership with two master artists and one apprentice, ACTA is raising funds to support our Apprenticeship Program. Thank you to the 33 generous supporters who have made a donation! But most importantly, thank you for sharing your thoughts and impressions of the value of this program. It is incredible the way people inside and outside California recognize the significance of ACTA’s Apprenticeship Program.

“I love the work that ACTA is doing around the state! The Apprenticeship Program is a great long-term investment in something that can really make a difference. Thanks for this opportunity.”
–Meg Glaser, Western Folklife Center and ACTA supporter

A great example that apprenticeships are long-term investments in the transmission of cultural traditions is the fact that next month, ACTA is co-curating with the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress and the Kennedy Center, a concert in Washington DC with past participants of the Apprenticeship Program. Master artists of son jarocho music & dance (including Luis Sarmiento and Ana Urzua from Santa Ana, Cesar Castro and Xochi Flores from Los Angeles, Artemio Posadas from San Jose, and Dolores Garcia from Oakland) will be presenting at the the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress and the Kennedy Center.

You can still help ensure that other artists have the opportunity to participate in this rich program. We are 15 days away from the end of our campaign and it’s not too late for you to help us reach our $8,000 goal. Would you join the 33 individuals (names listed below) who have contributed to the Apprenticeship Program? To make your tax deductible donation, please mail a check to ACTA’s Fresno office (1245 Van Ness Ave. Fresno, CA 93721) or donate online via credit card by going to the following link: http://www.apprenticeshipprogram.causevox.com.
